A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, August 29, at 11:00 a.m. at the Calvin H. French Memorial Chapel on campus with a reception immediately following at the Morrison-Reeves Science Center. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that individuals consider donating to the Dr. Laura Logan Sociology Scholarship fund.

Laura came to Hastings College in August 2013 after graduate study in Manhattan, Kansas, and research in Chicago, Illinois, and other Midwestern communities. Her research, teaching and service interests included social justice and inequalities, criminology, gender and intersectionality, social movements, political sociology and violence against marginalized people. She had published work on social networks, gendered organizations, stalking and street harassment.

She was honored twice by her peers and students, who selected her in 2015 and 2022 to give an Invited Faculty Lecture, which is considered a prestigious honor for faculty. Logan also received the Vondrak Outstanding Advisor Award in 2016. She had also been advisor of Alpha Kappa Delta, a sociology honor society, and served on the board of the Nebraska Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence, and was a member of the Sociologists for Women in Society.

Logan earned her a B.A. in sociology from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 2006. She earned a master’s in sociology from Kansas State University in 2008, a graduate certificate in women’s studies in 2009, and received her Ph.D. in sociology from Kansas State University in 2013. When not in the classroom, Logan enjoyed reading nonfiction, watching films, writing letters and spending time with family and friends.
