As a high school journalism department chair, Brett Erickson developed one of the first full-digital multimedia and convergent programs in Oregon; additionally, he has been developing Web content for over a decade. As a professional journalist and photographer, he has contributed for a number of Oregon and Nebraska newspapers, National Public Radio, American Public Media, and Nebraska Educational Telecommunications, and currently serves as the freelance Central Nebraska Bureau Chief for NET Radio (Nebraska Public Radio).  He advises hcmediaonline.org.

Also an avid and award-winning landscape photographer, Erickson's work has been featured in prominent Nebraska galleries and shows, including the Walker Gallery at the University of Nebraska-Kearney, the Rowe Sanctuary, the Minden Opera House Gallery, Kearney's Art in the Park, and Prairie Winds Gallery. 

Erickson earned his Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts from Hastings College in 1995, a Master of Arts in Teaching with an emphasis in English Language Arts from Hastings College in 1999, a Cisco Network Associate certificate in 2002, and a Master of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communications from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, one of the top 12 master's programs in journalism, in 2009.
