Why Major in Recreation & Sport Management?

With a major in recreation & sport management at Hastings College, you’ll build the skills to meet exciting challenges in a growing field. Our faculty will push you to think broadly and creatively about all aspects of managing health programs, community recreation programs and sports-related companies and organizations.

Whether you follow the recreation emphasis or sport management emphasis, you’ll grasp a firm understanding of the science and psychology behind human performance and how to build programs that motivate, educate and instill positive habits in others. On the management side, you’ll also master critical business and communication skills that set you apart in the job market.

As a Hastings College undergraduate you may find yourself interning with the Hastings YMCA; the Irish Amateur Boxing Association in Dublin, Ireland; Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings; or the Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, Neb. Local schools and organizations will seek you out to help coach and referee youth and club teams and games.

You’ll find recent Hastings College graduates living their dreams! They’re enjoying meaningful, exciting careers working for the National Park System, YMCA organizations across the country, media outlets and sports teams and organizations as coaches, marketers, directors and administrators.
