Jesse James to steal the Summerstage spotlight

Hastings College students and community members will be taking the stage to the tune of country-bluegrass this summer as they produce Jim Wann’s “Diamond Studs: The Life of Jesse James” for the second annual Summerstage production.  The saloon musical will take place on consecutive weekends: at 7:30 p.m., Friday-Saturday, June 13-14 and at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 15, and at 7:30 p.m., Friday-S

Student-run media outlets, student journalists earn 2014 Golden Leaf Awards

On April 11-12, Hastings College hosted the 2014 Nebraska Collegiate Media Association’s Spring Conference and won multiple Golden Leaf Awards from the organization. HCTV, the student-run television station, was named 1st in Best Overall Excellence for Television, while the student-run KFKX won 1st in Best Overall Excellence for Radio. HCMediaOnline also earned 3rd place honors in the Outstanding Digital Media category.

Kalinskiy, Russian executive, to provide Commencement Address

For Hastings College’s 128th Commencement Exercises, Oleg Kalinskiy, a 1998 HC alumnus, will serve as the Commencement Speaker. A native of Pyatigorsk, Russia, Kalinskiy serves as Director General of the Foundation for the Development of the Tube (Pipe) Industry in Russia.

Commencement is scheduled for Saturday, May 17 at 10 a.m. in Lynn Farrell Arena (800 E. 12th Street). The event, which is free and open to the public, will be livestreamed at hcmediaonline.org.

Cinematographer James Chressanthis, ASC, to speak

Acclaimed cinematographer James Chressanthis, ASC, will present a lecture at Hastings College’s French Memorial Chapel (800 N. Turner Ave.) at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 12 as part of the annual Nebraska Collegiate Media Association’s (NCMA) Golden Leaf Awards. The event is free and open to the public. This presentation is made possible through the NCMA’s affiliation with Canon USA’s Explorers of Light program.

2014 Pro Rege Society inductees include Doerr, Krienert and Lainson ‘37

The 2014 inductees into Hastings College’s Pro Rege Society include Roger Doerr of Hastings, Neb.; Dennis Krienert of Hastings, Neb., and Gretchen Lainson ’37 of Hastings, Neb.  The dinner and induction ceremony, during which Hastings College will recognize these individuals and company for their longstanding dedication to the College, will be held at Lochland Country Club in Hastings, Neb., on Thursday, April 24.
