Dr. Wilhelm teaches anatomy and physiology, microbiology, mammalogy, evolution, and Health Professions Seminar. He earned his doctorate at Texas Tech University and his master's and bachelor's degrees at Fort Hays Kansas State University.

He has offered January Term courses in scuba diving, caving, winter biology, and island biology. A member of the Hastings College faculty since 1979, he has published articles on mammalian ecology, bats, and mammal surveys. His particular research interests are shrews, bats and microtine rodents. He is particularly interested in helping Hastings College students make successful applications to graduate schools and founded and chaired the Health Professions Committee for many years.

Dr. Wilhelm has led J-Term study trips to Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico and Belize. He enjoys scuba diving, gardening, piloting his own plane and building and flying remote controlled model aircraft.
