The goal of the Mathematics and Computer Science Department is to assist each student in assessing his or her own interests, achievements and potential.
Students choosing to major in mathematics may design a program emphasizing pure or applied mathematics, statistics and actuarial science, preparation for teaching, and/or preparation for graduate work. A major or minor in mathematics also provides a valuable complement to a variety of other majors offered at Hastings College.
The computer science major is designed for the student who wishes to develop a broad understanding of computer applications, as well as demonstrate skills in computer programming and systems design. The core computer science courses are supported by one of two concentrations: an information systems emphasis, focusing on the use of computer tools to support decision-making in formal organizations, and a mathematics emphasis, focusing on the use of computing technology to solve engineering and scientific problems.
