Sharon Behl Brooks is an Associate Professor of Communication Arts and English at Hastings College where she has taught audio, reporting and media law courses since 1979. Brooks is a 1974 graduate of Hastings College, where she received her B.A. in English and Journalism Education. She earned a M. A. in Mass Communication from the University of Leicester in Great Britain. Her second M.A. is in Journalism from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Before returning to Hastings College, Brooks was a news reporter and presenter at KHAS-TV in Hastings, Nebraska, for two years before becoming the News Director there. Brooks has also served as the Acting Chair for the Department of Communication Arts when the department was formed and the Gray Center was constructed. Brooks was also the Edgar and Frances Reynolds Distinguished Lecturer until 2012.
Currently, Brooks serves as the General Manager of the 90.1 KFKX-FM radio station and helps the staff of roughly 40 students learn all aspects of radio. She is also an advisor for Alpha Chi, National Honorary Society and the Society for Collegiate Journalists. Through her work and involvement with students, Books has been awarded the National Advisor of the Year from the Society for Collegiate Journalists in 2011, the Distinguished Advisor award from National Alpha Chi in 2009, as well as the Outstanding Advisor Award from Hastings College in 1997.
