Fall Break swing in Minnesota successful for Hastings College Bronco Forensics

While competing at the Minnesota River Swing hosted by Minnesota State University- Mankato and Gustavus Adolphus College, the Hastings College Bronco Forensics team finished second overall. The Broncos finished third on each day of the two-day event.

During the competitions held on October 19-20, the Broncos picked up two additional events for the American Forensics Association-National Individual Events Tournament (AFA-NIET). Jared Buskirk, a junior from Holdrege, Neb., qualified for nationals in Impromptu Speaking while Miranda Klugesherz, a junior from Colorado Springs, Colo., qualified in Program of Oral Interpretation (POI). Buskirk also finished 2nd in the Individual Event Sweepstakes overall for the tournament.

Next weekend, the part of the Bronco Forensics team will participate in the 2013 Halloween Swing, co-hosted by Doane College and University of Nebraska- Omaha. Others team members will travel to Tempe, Ariz., for the 2014 AFA-NIET Preview Tournament at Arizona State University.

The Hastings College forensics team has continued a long-running tradition of national competitive success, placing in the top 20 at the American Forensics Association National Individual Events Tournament (AFA-NIET) for most of the past ten years, including 16th at AFA 2012 in San Marcos, Texas, and 18th at AFA 2011 in Kearney, Neb.
