Dr. Henry has been at Hastings College since 1999. During her time at HC, Dr. Henry has been lucky enough to have the chance to teach a number of different courses, including her favorites…Intercultural Communication, Persuasion, Argumentation and Debate, and Gender Communication. Dr. Henry’s students know that they will be challenged in her classes, but they will definitely learn a lot. One comment, typical of her students, was that “Jessica’s class was a lot of work and I struggled at times but I am so proud of my final project. It was all worth it!”
In addition to teaching her classes, Dr. Henry provides her students with exciting opportunities outside of the classroom. For example, Dr. Henry led a trip to Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand where students studied the communication and culture of South East Asia. Closer to home, Dr. Henry has formed an undergraduate research team to give students the opportunity to work more intensely on one research project for an entire year, with the hope of presenting the research at a conference or getting it published. Recently, Dr. Henry’s research team presented their project examining the self-disclosure of DACA status immigrants at the Academic Showcase Day.
Dr. Henry definitely keeps busy on campus, serving as the sponsor of Alpha Chi (the student academic honor society).
In her free time, Dr. Henry likes to take photos, go antiquing and spend time with her husband and two daughters (mostly cheering the girls on at their sporting events!).
