Bronco Forensics hosts successful home tournament

The Hastings College Forensics team hosted a home tournament, the Broncolope Swing, in partnership with the University of Nebraska–Kearney, November 17-18. A very successful weekend was in store for the team, with first-year student Conner Taylor from Omaha, Nebraska, qualifying his first event to the AFA-NIET.

The team said it would like to thank all alumni, faculty and staff who came out to help judge the on-campus tournament.

The results from the Broncolope Swing include:

Saturday, November 17:

Conner Taylor, a first-year from Omaha, Nebraska, placed first in After Dinner Speaking.
Jordanna McCauley, a first-year from Trenton, Nebraska, placed fifth in Poetry Interpretation.

Sunday, November 18 results:

  • Claire Nelson, a first-year student from Bagley, Minnesota, placed third in After Dinner Speaking.
  • Sam Johnson, a first-year student from Hastings, Nebraska, placed second in Extemporaneous Speaking.
  • Sam Burke, a sophomore from Denver, Colorado, placed fourth in Extemporaneous Speaking.
  • Courtney Hanson, a sophomore from Brookings, South Dakota, placed third in Program Oral Interpretation and fourth in Prose Interpretation.
  • Alli Kennon, a junior from Lakeville, Minnesota, placed third in Duo Interpretation with junior Jadah Morrison from Chaska, Minnesota.
  • Melissa Loney, a junior from Omaha, Nebraska, placed third in Communication Analysis and fourth in Impromptu Speaking.
  • Jadah Morrison, a junior from Chaska, Minnesota, placed third in Duo Interpretation with junior Alli Kennon from Lakeville, Minnesota, fourth in Persuasive Speaking and seventh in Dramatic Interpretation.
  • Nathan Navratil, a junior from Lino Lakes, Minnesota, placed second in Program Oral Interpretation.

The team placed second overall for the UNK half of the Broncolope Swing.

The Hastings College forensics team continues a long-running tradition of national competitive success, placing in the top 20 at the American Forensics Association National Individual Events Tournament (AFA-NIET) for many of the past ten years. Most recently, Hastings College placed 8th at AFA-NIET 2018.
