The inaugural class of the Hastings College Jackson Scholars program completed official signings this week and will arrive on campus in August.
The 2025-26 class of four students will receive a full-ride scholarship to Hastings College, including tuition, fees, room and meals for four years. Scholars will also receive professional enrichment opportunities that will support students as they seek internships, practicums and other experiences, such as conferences, exhibitions and study away opportunities, tailored to each individual’s interests.
The 2025-26 class of Jackson Scholars includes:
- Zanizeah Chavez of Mitchell, Nebraska
- Sam Daeges of Omaha, Nebraska
- Cherish Faircloth of Wood River, Nebraska
- Ava Manhart of Omaha, Nebraska
The program will double to eight students for the 2026-27 class. Up to eight high school juniors who participate in Open Space this summer may be selected for the program. The deadline to apply to Open Space is April 30.
The Jackson Scholars program is designed to cultivate artistic talent, foster community engagement and prepare students for successful careers after they graduate from Hastings College. The program is housed within the Jackson Dinsdale Art Center (JDAC), one of the preeminent art centers in the Midwest.
“These four students were selected from a very competitive and talented pool of aspiring artists. We can’t wait to see the impact they will have within the JDAC and across the broader community,” said Dr. Brian Corr, associate professor of art and chair of the department. “As the inaugural Jackson Scholars, we are confident that they will establish the standard for artistic excellence and community engagement we envision for this program. We are honored to support their growth through the outstanding resources and mentorship our program offers.”
