The Hastings College Choir, under the direction of Dr. Brett Epperson, is embarking on a regional tour through parts of Colorado, Wyoming and Nebraska this week. Long an audience favorite, the choir will present an eclectic program of favorites.
Epperson, assistant professor of music and director of choral activities, and the Choir will select from a repertoire of more than a dozen pieces for each of its five performances. Music ranges from “Sicut Cervus,” one of Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina’s most famous works, to an arrangement “True Colors,” a pop ballad made famous by Cindy Lauper, to the choir’s classic “Fairest Lord Jesus” arranged by emeriti professor Dr. Fritz Mountford.
Dr. Jonathan Sokasits, collaborative pianist and professor of music, will accompany the choir.
“I’m excited to take the choir across the region to show the talent we have and share our love of singing and music,” Epperson said. “The choir has performed in this region before, and we’re looking forward to engaging with friends, alumni and students, as well as those who love outstanding choral performances.”
The choir leaves Thursday, February 13, with a stop in Holdrege, Nebraska, to meet with students at Holdrege High School.
From there, the group travels to Scottsbluff, Nebraska, to perform at First Presbyterian Church of Scottsbluff (101 E 20th Street) at 7:00 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public, and will be followed by a reception.
