Hastings College shares groundbreaking, homecoming events

Hastings College Homecoming activities for alumni, friends and the community begin on Thursday, October 24 and continue into Sunday, October 27.

The College is kicking off alumni and community events with a Groundbreaking Ceremony for a new residence hall at 4:30 p.m. on October 24. The informal ceremony is on the south and west side of Lynn Farrell Arena, near the construction site. Parking is available in the arena lot, or at the Gray Center/Jackson Dinsdale Art Center lot.

Also Thursday is a Business After Hours with the Hastings Chamber of Commerce in the Jackson Dinsdale Art Center (700 E. 12th Street) from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The faculty gallery exhibition will be open to view. There will also be glass blowing demos, refreshments, appetizers and giveaways.

On Saturday, October 26, the Bronco Tailgate takes place in the Jackson Dinsdale Art Center/Gray Center parking lot from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The tailgate features a BBQ lunch catered by Hastings College Dining Services. The Bronco Marching Band will stop by, and the JDAC gallery will be open to view the faculty exhibition and glass blowing demonstrations. Guests are encouraged to park in the arena/stadium lot.

Hastings College Broncos football kicks off against Doane University at 1:00 p.m. at Lloyd Wilson Field, followed by volleyball versus Concordia University at 4:30 p.m. in Lynn Farrell Arena. Men’s and women’s soccer games against Doane begin at 5:30 and 8:00 p.m., respectively, at Lloyd Wilson Field.

At 8:30 p.m., the Hastings College Sachtleben Observatory, 4725 S. Wabash Avenue, Hastings, will be open to the public for free astronomy presentations and night sky viewing, weather permitting. Call Starline at 402.461.7717 for a message to check on cancellations due to weather; the message is usually updated by 5:00 p.m.

On Sunday, October 27 the Hastings College Choir will be featured as part of Hastings College Sunday at the 10:30 a.m. service at First Presbyterian Church.

Then at 1:00 p.m., the Hastings College women’s wrestling team is hosting a duel with Midland University in Lynn Farrell Arena.

Hastings College athletic and fine arts Hall of Fame events are also scheduled, but do require tickets to be purchased in advance.
