Three Hastings College students recently traveled to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln for the 2025 Tenaska Business Challenge, a multi-university case competition that challenges students to solve real problems through interdisciplinary solutions.

For Hastings College, Param Bhakta, a first year student from Hastings; Campbell Schukei, a sophomore from Hastings; and Alexah Maguire, a first year student from Lincoln, participated in the third annual challenge along with teams of three to four students from 20 other universities and colleges across five states.
The business case was provided by executives at Tenaska, an independent energy company based in the United States and sponsor of the competition. It required a comprehensive business approach on a topic related to their company. Teams had 48 hours to work before presenting solutions.
Teams presented their solutions twice to a panel of judges from Tenaska, Kiewit and UNL.
“Our students worked extremely hard on their case, and were up against mostly juniors and seniors from other schools,” said Dr. Katie Maguire, a faculty instructor for business who served as the group’s sponsor. “While they didn’t finish with one of the top prizes, their resilience and determination were inspiring, and everyone learned so much. We’re proud of them, and they represented Hastings College so well in this challenging competition.”
