Dr. Rhesa Ledbetter, assistant professor of biology, will present “Today is the Day…,” a deeply moving theatrical production for her Invited Faculty Lecture on Wednesday, February 21, at 1:00 p.m. in French Memorial Chapel. The production is free and open to the public.

In 2019, Ledbetter’s life turned completely dark with a single phone call and the realization that things would never be the same. In the midst of indescribable pain, she catches tiny glimmers of light and color seeping in, sometimes from the most unexpected places. And what she discovers about love and loss may surprise you.

This authentic look into her journey weaves in musical performances by Dr. Brett Epperson, assistant professor of music; Dr. Jonathan Sokasits, professor of piano; and the Hastings College Choir. It will leave you with unique insight and hope.A poster that shows “Today is the Day…,” with drawn faces, one with tears. It says the Invited Faculty Lecture on Wednesday, February 21, at 1:00 p.m. in French Memorial Chapel.

The production is directed by Robin Havens-Parker, who has directed more than 70 productions across the United States over the past 30 years. She currently resides in New Mexico. Havens-Parker directed Ledbetter in her very first theatrical show at five years old and the two have remained in touch for more than 35 years.

Artwork for the poster was created by Hastings College student Alena John of Glendale, Arizona. John is majoring in biology and minoring in studio art, and is a member of the Student Association Senate.

Ledbetter’s theatrical production is part of the Invited Faculty Lectures series. Each spring, Hastings College students select two faculty members to present campus-wide lectures on the professors’ topics of choice during the next academic year. Considered a prestigious honor for the faculty, the tradition dates to 1967, and is sponsored by the Hastings College Lecture Series.

Hastings College is a four-year residential college that focuses on student academic and extracurricular achievement. Discover more at hastings.edu.
