Several activities are planned at Hastings College as part of its Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration on Monday, January 18, 2021.
Activities, listed below, are open to the campus community, while the virtual rally is open to all by following the links to join in the livestream.
10:00 a.m. (all day) – Add Your Voice
“What’s Your Dream?” board in Hazelrigg Student Union (HSU). Students and employees can write their dreams on sticky notes for all on campus to see. A “mini museum” will be available with quotes from Dr. King, highlights of significant events from his life and information on the Civil Rights Movement.
10:00 a.m. – Virtual Rally
The 26th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Youth Rally and March virtual program will be livestreamed in HSU, but is available to anyone who would like to join in. While the event is streamed live, it can be viewed after as schedules allow. The “Call to Action” program includes a keynote, a tribute to the late John Lewis, musical performances and more. The livestream is available on the LNKTV Education website, YouTube channel and Facebook page.
A virtual pre-rally begins at 9:30 a.m. and includes a mash-up of various Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. speeches, bio’s, motivational music and empowerment cameo messages.
5:00 p.m. – Open Mic
An open mic session will be held on Steinhart Plaza for anyone who would like to say a few words about Dr. King, the Civil Rights Movement and other personal messages relating to MLK Day.
