The Hastings College Psychology Department will host the 2012 Joint Convention of the Nebraska Psychological Society (NPS) and the Association for Psychological and Educational Research in Kansas (PERK) on November 2-3, 2012. The public is invited to attend the conference keynote by Dr. Dennis Molfese at 1:30 pm, Saturday, Nov. 3 in the French Memorial Chapel. The keynote address is free. Dr. Molfese is an internationally-recognized expert on the use of brain recording techniques and a professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL). He is the Director of UNL’s new Center for the Brain, Biology and Behavior and has led the Traumatic Brain Injury Research Collaboration (including the Committee on Institutional Cooperation and the Big Ten Athletic Conference), which aims to better understand the causes and effects of sport-related concussion and head injuries.
He is also a professor for the Department of Special Education and Communication Disorders, a Collaborative Investigator to the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development and has served as Editor-in-Chief for “Developmental Neuropsychology.”
In addition to student poster and paper sessions, this joint conference involves preconference sessions specifically geared toward students and for faculty to share and discuss teaching philosophies and techniques.
The NPS is an organization for students and professionals that came into existence in 1993. Its purposes are to promote the scientific study of psychology, to advance teaching, research, and service in psychology and to serve as a forum for academic psychology in the State of Nebraska.
