Struggling to capture sports photographs? Learn a few tips from the best as Hastings College hosts Sports Illustrated’s NFL photographer, Peter Read Miller. His presentation, made possible through Canon USA’s Digital Learning Center and Explorers of Light program, will be Thursday, September 19 at 7:30 p.m. in French Memorial Chapel (800 N. Turner Ave.) The event is free and open to the community.
For more than 30 years, Peter Read Miller has captured athletes and coaches in action and in portraiture, not only for Sports Illustrated, but also for commercial and other media clients. He shares his insights and photography tips in guest lectures and workshops throughout the country.
Canon’s Explorers of Light connects preeminent photographers and cinematographers with colleges, universities and schools across the country to encourage photographers of all ages and skill levels to improve their skills. Hastings College has participated in Explorers of Light for four years, hosting world-renowned artists such as long-time National Geographic photographer Sam Abell and Saturday Night Live cinematographer Alex Buono.
Bio for Peter Read Miller
Peter Read Miller has worked for Sports Illustrated magazine as staff and contract photographer for over 20 years, with more than 85 covers to his credit.
In addition to shooting 25 Super Bowls, he has covered 14 NBA Finals, six Olympics, the Stanley Cup Final, the World Series, the Kentucky Derby, the NCAA Final Four, Men’s and Women’s World Cup Soccer and the World Championship of Freestyle Wrestling in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia.
Peter’s other editorial clients have included Time, Newsweek, LIFE, Playboy, People, USA Today, Runners World, Money Magazine, and The New York Times. His commercial clients include Coca-Cola, Adidas, Panasonic, Footlocker Stores, Nike, Warner Brothers, Visa and NFL Properties. Peter has also been a guest speaker at UCLA, San Jose State, and the University of Tennessee.
Peter has been an instructor at the Santa Fe Photographic Workshop, The Rick Clarkson Sports Photography Workshop and he currently presents a yearly Sports Photography workshop in Denver under the auspices of Working With Artists.
Peter lives in Manhattan Beach, California.
